Prayer is an important tool for the ancient soul in the
modern world (for everyone else as well, of course!).
Let's go over a little prayer 101.
1. Remember that the divine forces have to respect free
will. That means they are not allowed to interfere unless you ask for it.
Therefore prayer on behalf of self or others goes a long way. At times all it
takes is one person to ask for help to make a big difference.
2. What is your motivation when you pray? Is your request
fueled by fear, greed, and ego or is it generated from a place of love,
surrender, and forgiveness?
When we pray our intention is received as much as what we
ask for. I have noticed that my heart-centered prayers are answered a lot
quicker than those generated from other parts of self. So, note to self:
connect to your heart before praying!
3. Be genuine! I do believe that it is more powerful to put
forth an authentic heart-centered request than to run mentally through a
pre-scripted prayer disconnected from a personal, heartfelt intent.
4. Be careful what you ask for! Often times we have a
specific goal in mind when we put out a request. Lets say you have asked for an
increase in worldly abundance in your life.
That's great- there is nothing wrong with that! But, if a
part of you feels that in truth you don't deserve the abundance and you are
sabotaging yourself due to guilt issues i.e., be aware that your prayer can
trigger a series of opportunities for you to become aware of your guilt and the
opportunity to clear it. That means your life might seem more challenging for a
while and it may look like your prayers have not been answered when indeed they
have.
5. Who do you pray to? I have worked with a lot of people
and everyone seems to have their own list of beings on the other side they pray
to. Saints, angels, ancestors, masters of every shape and size are being
summoned for help. Please consider including Divine Source/ God in every
prayer. The reason is that every divine being has its own set of specialties
and might not be the best choice to fulfill your request. If you address Divine
Source directly, the best help can be sent to you, possibly someone that you
are not even aware exists.
That does not mean to exclude the Saints or Masters etc.
from your request. You are just expanding your horizons.
6. Location, set-up and duration of prayer:
Of course, it is nice to have the opportunity to pray in a
sacred place or building, in front of an altar lit with candles for a long
period of time. It is however, not necessary.
Really, anywhere, anyhow, even if you only have five minutes
can make a difference.
Who says you can't bless a place and make it sacred simply
through your prayer?
Any old traffic
jam, office building or random place in nature will do.
Divine Source is not closed-minded and isn't hung up on
rituals as much as some spiritual disciplines would like you to believe.
Make prayer part of your every day life and recognize the
spiritual opportunity in every moment of your existence.
